Romantic old town of Regensburg - excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage

There is also no lack of cultural offers in the Oberpfalz Jura region. The picturesque Danube city of Regensburg invites you to visit the old town with its historical buildings and monuments which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006.

The Oberpfalz Jura region – for hikers and nature lovers

The limestone that characterizes the landscape here everywhere is by no means the only highlight of the Oberpfalz Jura region. In addition to the white Jura rocks, striking rock formations, the hilly, in places almost Mediterranean landscape, various caves and river valleys also contribute to the character of this extraordinary region. Adventure hiking trails - for adventurous hikers and nature lovers:

The Jurasteig offers a lot to see on its 237 kilometers. Castles and monasteries that are well worth seeing are spread over 13 scenic stages through wild nature, forests and river valleys.

The Erzweg (ore trail) leads along the historical sites of the early ore industry on  cozy forest paths as well as on rocky trails in the Königstein stone mountains.

You can enjoy romantic impressions on the wonderful Altmühltal panorama trail which stretches for a total of 200 kilometers. In addition to incomparably beautiful views of the Altmühl River, the museums in the surrounding palaces and castles and a visit to the archeology park provide exciting entertainment. Small and grown adventurers can quench their thirst for knowledge here.

Those who love caves cannot do without this one: the Maximiliansgrotto near Auerbach is considered to be the largest stalactite cave in Germany.

Five-Rivers bike trail – an adventure tour by bike

A special treat for cyclists who love river landscapes is the 300-kilometer-long bike trail that leads through the valleys of five rivers. The circular route starts in Regensburg and leads back there via Kelheim, Neumarkt, Nuremberg and Amberg.
